When you visit Paris, there’s always that one café that steals your heart, a place you find yourself daydreaming about long after you’ve left. For me, that café is Carette. Situated in one of the most charming corners of the city—just steps from the Trocadéro and its stunning Eiffel Tower views—Carette is the epitome of Parisian elegance, offering a perfect blend of tradition, style, and gastronomic excellence.

I had heard about its reputation long before my visit, but it wasn’t until I experienced it firsthand that I truly understood why locals and tourists alike rave about this iconic spot. Carette is not just a café; it’s a quintessential Parisian experience. And yes, I’m going to say it: Carette serves the best chocolat chaud in all of France.

The best CHOCOLAT CHAUD in France

Let’s start with the star of the show: the chocolat chaud. To call it merely a “hot chocolate” would be an injustice. This is not your average powdered mix blended with warm milk. At Carette, you’re served a velvety, rich, decadent drink that feels more like sipping pure, molten chocolate. Thick yet perfectly smooth, each sip is like a warm hug for the soul.

What sets Carette’s chocolat chaud apart is the balance—it’s intense but never overwhelming. The depth of the cocoa flavor is astounding, with just the right touch of sweetness. It’s the kind of drink that makes you stop everything, just to savor the moment. I’ve tried my fair share of hot chocolates across France, and I can confidently say this one is in a league of its own.

Pastries that Amaze

Of course, no trip to a Parisian café is complete without indulging in the pastries. And Carette does not disappoint. Their display of pastries feels like walking into an art gallery, with vibrant éclairs, delicate mille-feuilles, and perfectly flaky croissants beckoning from behind glass cases. The textures, the flavors, the craftsmanship—each pastry is a work of art.

The macarons in particular, are to die for. Light and airy with just the right amount of chew, these colorful delights are filled with luscious creams that burst with flavor—whether you go for classic vanilla or exotic pistachio. I found myself ordering a second round just to prolong the indulgence.

One pastry that left a lasting impression was the tarte au citron. It’s tangy yet sweet, with a buttery, crumbly crust that perfectly balances the boldness of the lemon. Every bite was a symphony of flavors, making it hard to resist ordering one to go.

An Eggy Surprise

Now, while Carette is known for its desserts and hot drinks, let me introduce you to an unexpected but equally phenomenal find: their egg salad sandwich. Yes, I know, an egg salad sandwich might not sound like the most exciting option in a café brimming with French delicacies, but trust me on this one.

Served on perfectly baked bread, the sandwich has a lightness and freshness that’s hard to describe until you try it. The egg salad itself is creamy, but not too heavy, with just the right amount of seasoning and a hint of Dijon mustard to elevate the flavors. Paired with some crisp lettuce and a side of their homemade potato chips, this humble dish somehow manages to be one of the most satisfying meals I had in Paris.

A Must-Visit

If you’re planning a trip to Paris—or if you’re a local looking to rediscover a classic spot—Carette is a must. Whether you come for the chocolat chaud, the mouthwatering pastries, or the surprisingly amazing egg salad sandwich, you’re in for an unforgettable experience. Every visit leaves me wanting more, and every time I leave, I’m already planning my next trip back.
